How can LEDs help the environment?
The most common answer to this question forms on the simple basis that LEDs use less energy than a common household light. Many people are unaware of how they can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by adapting to new age LED technology which provides many environmental benefits.
Using less energy to power your home or business not only means cost savings of up to 80% for you, it means reducing carbon emissions for our planet. We all have a responsibility to think about our everyday way of life and how we use the earth’s resources. Installing LEDs now will help our planets future, could save you money on your electricity bill and will brighten up your life, not only aesthetically but also knowing you are making a positive impact to global pollution.
This infographic demonstrates how LEDs are superior on all levels – energy, money, lifespan and environmentalism. LED lights are up to 80% more efficient than traditional lighting such as fluorescent and incandescent lights.
95% of the energy in LEDs is converted into light and only 5% is wasted as heat. This is compared to fluorescent lights which convert 95% of energy to heat and only 5% into light! LED lights also draw much less power than traditional lighting; a typical 84 watt fluorescent can be replaced by a 36 watt LED to give the same level of light.
Less energy use reduces the demand from power plants and decreases greenhouse gas emissions. Although initial outlay costs for LEDs are quite high, in the long run you get more savings than any other type of lighting. On the environmental scale, LEDs are by far the better technology with a 9/10 rating.
An extended life span means less carbon emissions. LEDs last up to six times longer than traditional lights, with no need for frequent replacements. This results in depleting fewer LEDs and hence less resources are needed for manufacturing processes, packaging materials and transportation.
Energy efficiency is something to strive for as our homes and workplaces need to be energy efficient to meet minimum energy performance standards (MEPS). It’s going to be a way of life, our future depends on it.
